Hello, I'm Rachel.

I have had a passion for understanding how people learn since 2010. I earned my Master of Science in education in 2012 and spent the next 11 years in K-12 and college classrooms designing effective learning experiences for my learners. As I continued to grow in my practice, I began developing professional development opportunities for my colleagues. I studied andragogy more closely and built PD experiences both in person and online hosted through Google. In early 2023 I made the formal shift from the classroom to instructional design. In my current role I serve as an instructional specialist, both designing engaging learning experiences and coaching other designers as they create their own.

I entered this role joining a year-long, 108-lesson (9 unit) project that was three and a half months behind schedule. By the end of my fourth month, I utilized backward design to plan standard and goal-aligned objectives, learning activities, and assessments for the last three units of the project. I also designed and developed the last unit, and cleared upward of twenty lessons in edit. Thanks, in part, to my contribution this project was able to be finished on time. I was able to author ancillaries (train the trainer guide, answer keys) and produce gamified and interactive projects I conceptualized and developed with a third-party vendor.

Excited by all the learning potential in my new field, I enrolled in the Ed.D. of Applied Learning Sciences program at the University of Miami. This program is geared toward instructional designers, specifically. I have enjoyed being able to apply what I learn each day from world-class leaders in the field to my daily work and look forward to continuing to grow my skill set and create effective learning experiences for whomever the learners may be. My anticipated graduation date is December 2025.
